Your dentist may tell you to brush 3 times a day; but I think that is excessive. 1 time per day is enough, if you do it the right way, and consistently.
So you will brush teeth every day, but only 1 time. And you have to brush them for quite a while. Now, here is the trick that will let you brush teeth for 10 or 20 minutes without getting bored: although it might sound impossible, it *is* possible to brush teeth without any toothpaste dripping out of your mouth. This is something that you can practice and get good at. And it is totally worth it! Because once you can do this reliably, you don't need the sink or the bathroom any more (until the end of the brushing). You can go elsewhere and do other things. For example, I'm typing this article while brushing teeth!
Once you are not restricted to standing at the sink, there are many things you can do while brushing teeth:
As a bonus, the bathroom will be available to others during your abnormally long brushing session. That is nice. You can be a good person. In fact, you can go a step further, because you don't even need the bathroom to begin brushing. You only need the bathroom at the end.
Tips for how to gain this skill:
This is a good question! After all, many body parts stay healthy your whole life without much maintenance. But teeth are ... different. Teeth have a tricky task and they are exposed to more wear. See, our predecessors did not have this problem, due to shorter lifespans. They lived the first half of their life with one set of teeth, and the second half with the other set. But we live much longer. The "second half" of life is longer than it used to be. And it is actually impossible for teeth to just "stay healthy on their own" for this long. You have to do something about it.
The second problem is, we don't really eat the same kind of food as our predecessors. We cook it first. And then we eat relatively soft (cooked) food. This is not what our teeth were originally designed for.
Thank you for reading. I started writing this article while I had covid, to motivate myself to get out of bed and brush my teeth even though I was in pain. I will survive this and live for many more years, so why not keep my teeth healthy, right? Well, I hope this might be useful to you as well. I've been brushing teeth like this for 15 years and it has worked for me really well. Just keep in mind, all of this is just my opinion.
